摘要:This study examines dynamic user equilibrium in a bi-modal corridor with risk-averse travelers. Travelers make choices between a risky (stochastic) but fast highway and a reliable (deterministic) but slow public transit line. A bottleneck is located at the exit of the highway. The free-flow travel time on the highway is assumed uncertain and follows a uniform distribution. We adopt the mean-variance approach to measure the travel cost under risk. The travel cost of using the public transit consists of the costs of crowding and schedule delay. At user equilibrium, nobody can reduce his/her travel cost by ultimately changing his/her departure time or mode choice. We derive the closed-form solution of user equilibrium. When travelers are more risk-averse, the travel cost is higher, and the public transit ridership is also higher. We find that three departure time intervals may exist in the sequence of time on the highway, i.e., intervals in which travelers always arrive early, may be early or late, or always arrive late. Furthermore, the middle interval becomes longer when travelers are more risk-averse. Unlike the risk-neutral case where the departure rate of highway traffic decreases with departure time, the departure rate of highway traffic may first decrease and then increase with departure time when travelers are highly risk-averse. Finally, the equilibrium results are analyzed by varying the risk level and the risk-aversion preference in the numerical section.

He holds B.S. degreesin Business Administration (first) /Applied Mathematics (second) and a PhD degree in Transportation Planning and Managementfrom Beihang University.His primary research interests are in the areas of activity-based modeling, dynamic traffic assignment and public transit operations.
